Eileen F. Cadwell

Eileen F. Cadwell, age 76, of Lancaster, died on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA. She was born on April 20, 1934, in South Dakota, the daughter of Harry and Edna Gotheridge. As an infant, her mother died; she was adopted by George and Lima (Taylor) Lefler of Platteville. Eileen graduated with the last class from Rewey High School in 1951. In 1953, she was united in marriage to Jerry Steffens. In 1968, the couple moved to Liberty Ridge, North Lancaster Township, where they operated a Grade A dairy farm. She was a member of the Stitzer United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school director for many years and assisted with the Christmas programs. Eileen was also a member and past president of the Christian Womens Club in Lancaster. On August 2, 1992, Eileen married Frank Cadwell who preceded her in death in 2001. She dearly loved her children and grand-babies and keeping up with their activities.

Survivors include her children: Deb Steffens, Lancaster; Mike (Deb) Steffens, Lamoore, CA; Jeff (Joanne) Steffens, W. St. Paul, MN; six grandchildren: Nathanial, Stephanie (David) House, Micheal Jr., Matthew, Benjamin, and Kirby Sue; her sisters: Goldie Patterson, Mildred Denison, Phoebe Burney, Edna Parent, and Adelia Price.

In addition to her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: Lydia Lester, Ernest Gotheridge, Buster Gotheridge, Charles Gotheridge, Rosie Case, and an infant granddaughter, Georgie Danielle Steffens.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Stitzer United Methodist Church with Pastor John Oliver officiating followed by a time of fellowship. Private family burial will be at a later date. In lieu of plants and flowers, an Eileen F. Cadwell memorial fund has been established.

Lee G. Cadwell

Lee G. Cadwell, age 82, of Cassville, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at the Lancaster Care Center, Lancaster. He was born on September 6, 1931, the son of Lester and Isabelle (Junk) Cadwell. Lee graduated from Cassville High School. He entered the United States Air Force and served his country for twelve years until his honorable discharge in 1964. Lee owned and operated Cadwell Appliance and Service until 1988. He then began teaching appliance service at Southwest Technical College until his retirement in 1994. On June 4, 1979, Lee was united in marriage to Maryann Vogt. Lee was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and the American Legion Post No. 352 of Cassville. He enjoyed fixing things and was a wonderful handyman. Lee had a quick wit and enjoyed talking to people and making them laugh. He also enjoyed spending the winter months in Gulf Shores, Alabama, where he and Maryann have been wintering for the past eighteen years. Lees greatest joy was spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Maryann, Cassville; two step-sons: Jeffrey (Debbie) Vogt, Madison; their children, Chris and Stephanie; Michael (Nancy) Vogt, Westley Chapel, FL; sisters-in-law: Joan Cadwell, Dubuque, IA; Margaret Cadwell, Bismarck, MO; a brother-in-law, Stan Mulrooney, Janesville; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by his siblings: June, Lester, Howard, Paul, Bill, Gertrude and his twin brother, Leo.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 21, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial with military honors was in St. Charles Cemetery, Cassville. Family and friends called on Sunday, October 20, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church where a 3:00 p.m. prayer service will be held. Friends also called on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services is serving the family.

Mary E. Cain

Mary Ellen (Hensen) Cain, age 60, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2014, with her family at her side. Mary was born on January 20, 1954, the daughter of Wilfred and Angeline (Ballweg) Hensen, in Madison. She, along with her eight siblings, grew up on their family farm near Middleton. Mary graduated from Middleton High School in 1972, went on to earn her LPN from Madison Area Technical College in Madison, and a nursing degree from Northeast Iowa Community College in Peosta, IA. She married her best friend, Gerald Jerry Cain, on September 9, 1978.

Mary enjoyed playing and winning card and board games, taking short road trips, taking walks in her power wheelchair, seeing movies and spending time with her family and friends. She was very active in her younger years and together with her husband Jerry, they liked to bike, hike, walk, play softball, cross-country ski and take vacations, especially in the mountains and near water. Mary was very active with her church, participating in daily Mass, Catholic Daughters, Council of Catholic Women, bible study and was always proud to share her faith with others. Mary always knew how to make others laugh and had a special way with people.

Mary is survived by her devoted husband, Jerry, daughter Emily (Celestino) Ruffini, a grandson due in April, siblings Sister Angeline Hensen, LaVerne (Jean) Hensen, Sharon (Jim) Bannan, Nancy (John) Laubmeier, Marlene Witt, Wilfred Jr. (Kim) Hensen, Jim (Sue) Hensen, a brother-in-law Phil Troia, special friend Marcia Hampton, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Colleen, a sister, Darlene Troia, her mother and father-in-law Elaine and George Cain, and a niece, Anna Bannan.

Mary was a fighter and a role model for many. She adored her husband and valued their time together, especially as her primary caretaker. Their devotion to one another was undeniable and there is no greater love between a husband and wife than that of Mary and Jerry. Mary was incredibly proud of her daughter and son-in-law and she eagerly anticipated the arrival of her first grandson in April. She will forever be his special guardian angel.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church, Lancaster, with Fr. John Sasse officiating. Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Visitation was held on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Schwartz Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family.

Clifford C. Caley

Clifford C. Caley, age 75, of Platteville, died on Sunday, June 29, 2008, at his home surrounded by his family after a long battle with lung cancer. He was born on October 27, 1932, in Waterloo Township, the son of Ora and Nellie (Allbee) Caley. Clifford attended Elmdale School in Burton. On July 16, 1953, he married Mary Lu Blackbourn at Lancaster Congregational Church. After their marriage, the couple resided in Beetown. Clifford was employed at John Deere Dubuque Works from December of 1965 until his retirement in April of 1989, when he moved to Arthur. He was a member of the Arthur United Methodist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, cars, auctions, gardening and old tractors.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lu, Platteville; six children: Allan (Christine) Caley, Potosi; Brian (Rose) Caley, Platteville; Nancy (Nick) Timmerman, Platteville; Susan (Stephen) Opsal, LaSalle, IL; Craig (NancyLee) Caley, Brodhead; Betsy (Robert) Huehne, Livingston; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers: Donald Caley, Lancaster; Alfred Caley, Bloomington; LaVern Caley, Lancaster; seven sisters-in-law: Rose Caley, Bloomington; Viola Caley, Bloomington; Eula Mae Caley, Beetown; Maude Dailey, Bloomington; Ruth Palmer, Livingston; Winifred Christiansen, Oregon; Ellen (Richard) Krohn, Beetown; one brother-in-law, Claire Blackbourn, Lancaster; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Clifford was preceded in death by three brothers: Melvin, Lawrence, and Glen Caley; a sister, Helen Ackerman; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Caley and Betty Blackbourn; five brothers-in-law, Leonard Ackerman, Earl Dailey, Jim Palmer, Neal Christiansen and Russell Blackbourn.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Reverend John Oliver officiating. Burial was in Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township. Friends called on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until time of services on Thursday.

A special thank you to Southwest Hospice, especially Teri, and the doctors and nurses who took such great care of Clifford and his family.

Donald E. Caley

Donald E. Caley, age 92, of Lancaster, WI, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at Orchard Manor in Lancaster. He was born on September 25, 1919, in Waterloo Township, Grant County, a son of Ora and Nellie (Allbee) Caley.

Donald served in the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II.

He enjoyed working in his gardens, cars, birds, squirrels, cutting wood with a bucksaw, and hauling a whole winters wood in the trunk of his car.

Donald is survived by a son, Roger (Sarah) Bradley of Beloit, WI; two brothers, Alfred of Beetown and LaVern of Ellenboro; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Charlotte; four brothers, Melvin, Glen, Jack and Clifford; and a sister, Helen.

Funeral Services were held at 11 am on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster, with Pastor Pam Strakeljahn officiating. Burial was in Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township. Visitation was from 9 am until the start of the service Saturday at the funeral home.

James E. Caley

James E. Jim Caley, age 52, of Beetown, died on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at Orchard Manor in rural Lancaster after a short battle with cancer. He was born on September 14, 1958, in Lancaster, the son of Glen L. and Eula Mae (Rennison) Caley. Jim attended Cassville High School. He was employed at the Beetown Livestock and also worked as a farmhand for Lyle Schauff. Jim enjoyed life and being outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish, and mushroom hunt.

Survivors include his mother, Eula Mae Caley, Beetown; his siblings: Darrell (Theresa) Caley, Beetown; Dorothy Arndt, Platteville; Gloria Caley, Beetown; Joan (Lonnie) Thill, Potosi; and Brenda (Tom) Roesch, Lancaster; nine nieces and nephews; four great-nieces, many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

James was preceded in death by his grandparents: James and Edna Rennison and Ora and Nellie Caley; his father, Glen L. Caley on February 20, 2005; a nephew, Jeremy Arndt in September of 1980, and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 21, 2011, at 11:30 a.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial was in Beetown Cemetery, Beetown. Family and friends called on Sunday, March 20, 2011, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster and on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Larry L. Caley

Larry Laverne Caley, 63, of Bloomington passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013 at home.

He was born March 5, 1950 the son of Lawrence (Jack) and Viola (Kress) Caley. He farmed most of his life. He loved his Honda motorcycles and his horses: Silver, Susie, Lightning, Stardust, Lady, and currently Lightning Fire.

He is survived by his mother Viola Caley, Bloomington; three sisters, Linda (Joe) Orton, Dickeyville, Janice (Ken) Kipper, Lancaster and Veda (Bill) Schmitt, Platteville; step nephews, Kelvin (Cathy) Orton, Sun Paririe, Derek Orton, Dubuque; nieces and nephews, Susan (Kevin) Knief, Bellevue, IA, Sharon (Jason) Pennekamp, Shelly (Ryan Woodward) Kipper, Nathan Schmitt, all of Platteville, and Natalie Schmitt, Neenah; his step great nephews, Joseph and William Orton, Sun Prairie, and Mitchell Knief, Iowa City; great nieces and nephews, Anthony Schiffman, Platteville, Lucas and Colton Knief, Bellevue, IA, Emma and Isabel Pennekamp, and Owen Woodward, all of Platteville.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Caley, and a great nephew, Tim Schiffman.

A Funeral Service were held at 11 am on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Schwartz Funeral Home, Lancaster, with Rev. Mark Dieter officiating. Burial was in Dodge Cemetery, Beetown. Friends called from 9 am until the start of the service Wednesday.

Roseanna M. Caley

Roseanna M. Kress Ackerman Caley, age 87, of Beetown, died on Sunday, February 13, 2011, at her sons residence in Viroqua. She was born October 25, 1923, to Henry and Mary Rosann (Richardson) Kress around the Potosi area. Mary died when Rose was only 5 years old and Henry passed before she turned 13. Rose and her younger brother, Leonard, were adopted and raised by Reiner S. and Elizabeth Ackerman. She received her eighth grade diploma from the Massville Rural School and was confirmed in 1937 at the Potosi Congregational Church. Rose married Melvin Caley on January 8, 1947, at the Congregational Church in Lancaster. The couple ran a dairy and hog farm in Beetown Township. They were married for 48 years until Melvin died in 1995. Rose continued to manage the farm until 2010.

Rose was involved with the Beetown Busy Braves 4-H Club when Marvin and Connie showed there cattle, horses, rabbits and other items. She exhibited vegetables and flowers in the open class. Rose belonged to the West Grant Saddle Club, where she enjoyed helping Connie and watching her many horse shows.

Tending and caring for a large vegetable garden and raising gorgeous flower not only provided food for her family but also added beauty to her yard, table and the church alter. Her real passion was embroidery and she graced many people with her works of art until her macular Degeneration stole her eyesight. Then she turned her creative talents to crocheting making baby blankets, towels tops and dish clothes. Rose always had to have some kind of work to keep her busy as those hands were never idle.

Rose enjoyed going to the Beetown United Methodist Church, helping with the various church and community dinners and breakfasts where she scraped many plates over the years.

Rose is survived by her children: Marvin (Beverly) Caley, Viroqua; Connie (Warren) Gabrilska, Berlin; four grandchildren: Doug (Billie Hanson) Caley, DeSoto; Sheryl (Mark) Haakenson, Ferryville; Michelle and Casey (Beth) Caley,Viroqua; seven great-grandchildren: Bob Jd Caley, Roxanna, April, Shawnna and Ryan Haakenson, Gracie and Kendall Rose Caley; a sister, Viola Caley, sister and brothers-in-law: Eula Mae Caley, Mary Lu (Jim) Caley Vondrum, Donald, Alfred, LaVern Caley. She is further survived by neices and nephews and many other family, friends and many good friends from the Beetown area that were willing to give her a ride.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, a sister, Ruby (Harry) Birch, brothers: Louis, Joseph and Leonard (Helen) Ackerman, Eddie (Laura) and Arnie (Mildred) Kress; Sister-in-law, Shirley Caley; Brothers-in-law: Glen, Lawrence (Jack) and Clifford Caley.

Funeral services were held on Friday, February 18, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial was in Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township. Family and friends called on Thursday, February 17, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster and from 12:00 noon until time of services on Friday at the funeral home.

Clayton Call

Clayton C. Call, age 73, of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2015, at his home with his loving family by his side. Clayton was born on September 2, 1942 in Whitehall Wisconsin to James Call, Sr and Christine (Solum) Call. He grew up on a Century Farm in rural Osseo, WI. He attended King's Valley 1 room schoolhouse thru the 8^th grade and graduated from Osseo High School in 1960, there he was active in 4-H, and Jr. Leaders. In FFA he was active in local, state, and national dairy judging and was awarded the State Farmer Award. He also was involved in sports, music, drama, and forensics.

After High School he attended UW Madison's Farm Short Course and was involved in many school activities and learned to swim at the Red Gym on the UW Campus.

He married Judith Hanson at King's Valley Church and from there his love of the Land and farming took his career to many places. He worked in Osseo and Strum, then moved to Burlington, WI and pursued management training. He worked at Montello and Osceola, WI and also temporary management positions in Union Grove and Northfield, MN. His final hometown was Lancaster, WI, where he worked at Lancaster, Platteville, and Hazel Green offices.

He was active in the Montello Volunteer Fire Department and the Hazel Green Rescue Squad. He was active in Christ Lutheran Church where he served many terms on the Church Counsel. Clayton was on the Farm Progress and Technology Planning Committee that brought Farm Progress Days to Grant County.

Boy Scouting was an important love to Clayton and one that he passed on to his son and grandson. He served as troop leader, Council Member and took 2 groups to Philmont Ranch, NM. Clayton was honored with a Citation by the State Assembly, Lancaster Fire Department, and nominated for the Carnegie Medal of Heroism for his part in the rescue of a man from a burning vehicle.

Clayton was a master craftsman and enjoyed making furniture, crafts, and toys for his grandchildren and neighborhood children. He and his father-in-law built his family home in Osceola, and after retirement he assisted in the building of his daughter and son-in-law's cabin. His garage workshop was well organized and was where he lived by the motto measure twice, cut once. He was a handyman that could fix anything.

His second love was fishing with his buddies Larry and Jim. Numerous hours and tales were shared in the boat and his "Mighty Merc" motor.

Clayton loved to travel, there were numerous family trips from the California coast to the Atlantic Ocean-DC and Virginia area. He enjoyed numerous trips with his in-laws to Cable and Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota and winter trips in the Gulf Coast and Caribbean. He and Judy along with Nita and Tom traveled to 5 countries in Northern Europe in his pilgrimage to trace his ancestry in Norway, only to learn he was not 100% Norwegian as he had bragged. There was a little Swedish there.

Weather was Clayton's claim to fame. He had most meteorologist beat, and reported to both the Lacrosse and CoCoRaHS National Weather Bureaus. He was also a Weather Spotter for the Lancaster Area.

Clayton is survived by his wife, Judy, Lancaster; Son, Bryan (Sonya), Wisconsin Rapids; daughter Laurie(Steve) Walker, Lancaster; Grandchildren: Tanner and Jenah Call, Elizabeth, Erin and Meg Walker. He is further survived by sister, Loretta (Arlen) Carter, Fall Creek, WI; Sister-in-law, Marion Call, Osseo, WI.

Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, James, and nephew, Eric Carter.

Memorial Services were held on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Froemming officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Family and friends called on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Betty Cammack

Betty Arlene Cammack, age 90, of Cassville, WI, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Orchard Manor in Lancaster, WI.

Betty, the daughter of Herman and Sylvia (Schumacher) Hollenberger, was born on February 26, 1924, in Janesville, WI. On June 30, 1947, in Dubuque, IA, she was united in marriage to Robert L. Cammack.

Formany years, Betty and Bob lived in Hayward, CA, and moved to Platteville, WI, in 1965. Later, they moved to Cassville, where Betty worked for many years at Rapid Tool and Dye.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert,her son, Timothy; as well as two brothers-in-law, Thomas Bell and Robert Bither.

She is survived by her son, Steven (Cathy); four grandchildren,Jennifer (Randy) LePak, Jeremy (Heidi) Bowden, Chad (Ria) Cammack, and Megan (Trevor) Hins; ten great grandchildren, Riley, Austin, Makenzie, and Ethan LePak, Talon and Peyton Bowden, Bobby and DaisyCammack, and Kale and Lily Hins; two sisters, Phyllis Bither in Oregon, and Marilyn Bell in California; and several nieces and nephews.

A private family burial will be held at a later date. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cassville is assisting the family.

Richard Cammack

Richard B. Cammack, age 77, of Potosi, passed away on August 22, 2013, at the Lancaster Care Center, after a long illness.

Richard was born on March 25, 1936 in Ellenboro, WI. He moved to the family farm in Potosi in March of 1944. He farmed, drove truck for Kowalski-Kieler, and worked for Potosi Township for 20 years until his retirement.

Richard enjoyed gardening, fishing, animals, and visits with friends and family. Most of all, he enjoyed being on the farm.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Olive (Orcutt) Cammack; and an infant sister.

Richard is survived by a brother, Roger, and a sister, Norma (Herb) Ashmore, both of Potosi; three nieces, Amy (Smitty) Lynch, Hampton, VA, Jane (Kalab) Olson, Fall Creek, WI, and Lori Ashmore, Madison, WI; two great-nieces, Kaitlyn Olson and Emma Lynch; and one great-nephew, Ryan Olson.

At Richards request no public services were held. Private graveside services will be at Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster is assisting the family.

Roger Cammack

Roger D. Cammack, age 71, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Grant Regional Health Center, in Lancaster, after complications from a massive stroke. He was born March 19, 1945, the son of Joseph and Olive (Orcutt) Cammack. Roger was raised on the family farm. After high school he was employed at the Potosi Brewery in the bottling plant. When the brewery closed, Roger drove a cement truck for Kowalski Kieler Inc., and would later work in maintenance at the Grant County Highway Department until his retirement. Roger was always busy and was happy to fix anything or lend a hand to anyone that needed help. He enjoyed cutting wood, gardening, fishing, nature, and animals. Roger's quick wit and humor could always bring a laugh or a smile to everyone. He will be greatly missed by his family and all of his friends.

Surviving is his sister Norma (Herb) Ashmore of Potosi; three nieces: Amy Lynch and her daughter Emma, of Hampton, VA; Jane (Kalab) Olson, and their children Ryan and Kaity of Fall Creek, WI; and Lori Ashmore of Madison, WI.

In addition to his parents Joseph and Olive, Roger was preceded in death by his brother, Richard and an infant sister.

In keeping with Roger's wishes, a private family graveside service was held at Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. There will be no public visitation. Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster is assisting the family.

David J. Campbell

David J. Campbell, of Riverview, FL, died unexpectedly on Monday, August 25, 2008, at his residence. He was born on June 27, 1949, in Lancaster, the son of Harlan and Catherine (Briel) Campbell. David graduated from Bloomington High School in 1967. He received his Bachelors of Sociology from University of Wisconsin Platteville in 1971. David later received his Masters in Social Work from the University of Washington, St. Louis, MO, in 1973. In 1975, he founded the Osceola Mental Health Agency. The agency continues to serve children and adults in the Florida communities of Kissimmee and St. Cloud with behavioral health issues. David served as the Executive Director and for the following twenty-five years, oversaw the growth and expansion of a plethora of services and programs to anyone in need.

He is survived by his perfect daughter, Catherine Kitty Campbell, and wife, Rochelle, both of Potosi; his most beloved sister, Julie (Dan) Hermsen, Bloomington; many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Harlan, Catherine Mason, and Clive Pete Mason.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 7, 2008, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Paul Liberty Ridge Church with Rev. Martin Yeager officiating. Burial was in the Liberty Ridge Cemetery. Friends called on Sunday, September 7, 2008, from 11:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Clara M. Capps

Clara M. Capps, age 84 of Potosi, passed away peacefully January 27, 2013, at her home after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was born January 8, 1929, the daughter of John and Elsie (Berry) Kelly. Clara graduated from Novinger High School, Novinger, MO, in 1947. She played basketball all four years in high school. Although short in stature, she was known to be quite spunky and was asked to play on an all redheaded girls basketball team in the off season. Clara married George BuckCapps on January 11, 1947, in Kirksville, MO. Clara and Buck made their home in Dubuque, IA, where god blessed their union with three wonderful children. The family later made their home in Potosi. Clara worked at several jobs: Dubuque Packing Company, Battery Factory, Speigels, Swiss Colony, and she retired after twenty-five years at Peoples Natural Gas in Dubuque, IA. Her greatest joy was her family and friends. She was a long time member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. Clara enjoyed dancing, playing cards, gambling, water skiing, and traveling. She visited every state in the union except Alaska, and traveled throughout Europe. In France she visited the Lourdes Shrine where she received a blessed rosary that she cherished.

Survivors include her loving husband of sixty-six years, GeorgeBuck Capps; their children: Jackie Blindert; Gary (Deb) Capps; Terry Capps; eleven grandchildren: Travis and Chad Blindert, Tracy (Josh) Minnahan, Kelly (Joe) Lovergine, Kimberly (Eric) Johnson, Anthony (Angie) Capps, Michael (Jennifer) Capps, Jessica (Adam Jones) Capps, Chris (Christine) Craven, Jeff Craven and Amanda Craven; seventeen great-grandchildren and one on the way; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by three brothers: Jim, Haden, and Marion Kelly; two sisters: Vivian Truitt and Kate Kelly; three grandchildren: Sean and Bernadette Blindert and Christopher Capps; and a son-in-law, Bernie Blindert.

Funeral services were held on Friday, February 1, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial was in St. Andrew Cemetery, Tennyson. Family and friends called on Thursday, January 31, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Potosi is serving the family. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Clara M. Capps Memorial Fund has been established.

Jack Cardey

Jack Norman Cardey, age 93, of Potosi, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Lancaster. He was born on August 30, 1922, in Potosi. Jack was married to Helen Louise Weller of Blue Rapids, Kansas, on October 6, 1945. They had three daughters: Cheryl, Leslie, and Sue Ann. Jack served his country in the United States Navy during World War II in Hawaii and played professional baseball for 15 years.

Survivors include his loving wife, Helen Cardey, Lancaster; two daughters: Cheryl (John) Abrams, Ames, IA; Leslie (Jack) Louthain, Sturgeon Bay; 7 grandsons; 14 great-grandchildren; his brothers: Keith Cardey, Napa, CA; Dennis (Lucette) Cardey, Apple Valley, MN; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Ann Cardey; a sister, Shirley Patzner; and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Cardey.

Memorial services with military honors were held on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Davies Memorial United Church of Christ in Potosi with Pastor Gordon Cunningham officiating. Private family burial was in Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi Township. Family and friends called on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, donations may be made in Jack's memory to the Davies Memorial United Church of Christ in Potosi or the Potosi Rescue Squad. Jerry A. Cardey

Jerry A. Cardey, age 72, of Potosi died Friday, November 28, 2008 at Orchard Manor in rural Lancaster. He was born on March 15, 1936 in Waterloo Township, Grant County, the son of Ellsworth and Birdie (Johnson) Cardey. Jerry attended Elmdale School and graduated from Potosi High School. He was united in marriage to Harriet Thill on August 1, 1959 in Potosi. Jerry worked as a television repairman for Murray Electric of Lancaster for 31 years. He also tended bar in Potosi.

Jerry was a member of Davies Memorial United Church of Christ in Potosi and served as a deacon. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Warrens #4 FA&M in Potosi. Jerry liked to hunt, fish, play golf and he loved to attend his grandchildrens activities. His grandchildren were his greatest joy.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Harriet of 49 years; his three children, Tim Cardey (fianc, Tami), Potosi, Rick (Angie) Cardey, Rib Lake and Amy (Tony) Gehl, Peosta, IA; six grandchildren, Teri Cardey, Madison, Kurt Cardey, Potosi, Jordan and Kaitlyn Cardey, Rib Lake and Madeline and Zachary Gehl, Peosta, IA; Tamis children, Danielle and Dana; two nieces and two nephews, Ronnie (Deb) Walker, Soldotna, AK, Shirley (Dick) Schiffman, Potosi, Jackie (Richard) Friesen, Cuba City and David Gassen, Potosi.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Veva Thill; his granddaughter, Tami Jo Cardey and his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Cletus Gassen.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2008 at Martin Funeral Home in Potosi with Teri A. Hanson officiating. Burial was held in Van Buren Cemetery, Town of Potosi. Family and friends were welcome on Sunday from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. where there was a Masonic Service at 6:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services all at the funeral home.

Harriet M. Carlos

After many successful battles with death, Harriet Marie Carlos (Winkler), succumbed Sunday,June 6, 2010 with family and her loving husband of 55 years by her side.

Harriet was born in Potosi Wisconsin , the daughter of Celestine Sr. and Emma (Freisen) Winkler. With her siblings, Selma , Maynard, Joseph, Marcella (Brandt) , Marie (Ambort), Delores (Leibfried), and Celestine Jr. Winkler, Harriet worked the family farm and attended school. In the early 1950s, she boldly moved to California to work for Hughes Aircraft. It was there she met her future husband. Harriett and Joseph Desiderio Carlos were married in St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Tennyson , Wisconsin in 1954.

Living in California , Harriet and Joe raised three children, Lawrence, Teresa, and Vincent. Harriets immediate family includes Larrys wife Donna-Renee and sons Alexander and Neil; Teresas husband Craig James and a daughter; and Vinces wife Tracie and sons Chris and Corey.

Harriet lived a simple life, having lifetime passions of polka music, dogs, and volunteer work. Larry, Teresa, and Vincent are grateful for her lessons of love, hard work, and dedication. They are thankful as well, for the many ways their father loved and cared for their mother. Her family and friends will miss her dearly.

Visitation was from 11:30am to 1:00pm, June 22^nd, at St. Andrews Church , Tennyson Wi . The service followed the visitation at 1:00 pm. Burial was in St. Andrews Cemetery , Tennyson directly after the service. The Martin Funeral Home in Potosi is in charge of the arrangements.

Wade R. Carns

Wade R. Carns, age 56, of Prairie du Chien, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 28, 2012, after a short illness. Wade was born on February 2, 1956, in Lancaster, a son of David and Jean (Salis) Carns.

Wade grew up in Boy Scouts where his dad was a leader. He excelled in school and starred in many plays and chorus activities. Wade also was a member of the Potosi track team. He graduated from Potosi High School in 1974. He pursued a music degree which he applied in giving music lessons to many.

Mostly, Wade lived to play music. His whole life revolved around it. People were amazed by his bass skills and many other instruments. He supported many bands along his journey.

Wade spent many years living in Portland, Oregon. He worked for Owens/Corning there. Three and a half years ago, he moved to Potosi to be closer to his family.

Wade was employed at Blue Note Music Store in Platteville, where he also gave lessons.

He will be sadly missed by those who loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Bowie Rae Carns of Portland, OR; his parents, David and Jean Carns of Potosi; a sister, Deb Carns of Potosi; two brothers, Terry (Carrie) Carns of Excelsior, MN and Gerry (Molly) Carns of Platteville; his girlfriend, Kathy Stickfort of Prairie du Chien; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving friends and relatives.

Funeral Services were held at 11 am on Friday, January 4, 2012 at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home, 100 Park Place, Platteville. Burial will be held at a later date. Friends called from 9 am until the start of services Friday at the funeral home.

Juanita J. Carpenter

Juanita J. Carpenter, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at the Lancaster Care Center, Lancaster. She was born on August 31, 1928, in Lancaster Township, the daughter of Ellsworth and Nevada (Ellis) Levins. Juanita married George B. Jackering and later married Harold Carpenter. She was employed as a CNA at Orchard Manor and also worked at Rapid Dye in Cassville. Juanita loved music, going to the casino, cooking, playing Bingo, cards and Aggravation.

Survivors include her children: Laura Hoegsted, Donna Hamilton, and George (Bonnie) Jackering; her grandchildren: Rhonda (Gary) Cleveland, Melissa (Dale) Hackett, Sherry Govier, Holly (Tim) Britain, Shannon (Tom) Mergen, Nickie Blume, George Jackering, Parker (Tabitha) Jackering; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Juanita was preceded in death by her husbands, a daughter, Joan Ann, her sons-in-law, John Hamilton and Lenny Hoegsted, and her brothers and sister.

Funeral services were held on Friday, October 24, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lancaster Care Center Chapel in Lancaster with Reverend Pamela Strakeljahn officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. There will be no visitation. Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services is assisting the family.

Mildred G. Carroll

Mildred G. Carroll, age 102, of Lancaster, died on Monday, March 17, 2008 at the Lancaster Care Center. She was born on September 18, 1905 on a farm in South Lancaster Township, the first of two daughters born to John and Johanna (Pink) Hoffman. Mildred graduated from Lancaster High School and then married Thomas J. Carroll on December 27, 1923 in Lancaster. She spent her entire lifetime in the Lancaster area. Mildred was the mother of 13 children. She was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster.

She is survived by 11 children: Dorothy Fishnick, Lancaster; James (Carol) Carroll, Mauston; Walter (Marian) Carroll, Winona, MN; Paul (Joan) Carroll, Barefoot Bay, FL; Rose Mary Thompson, Lancaster; Ralph (June) Carroll, Lizella, GA; Richard (Kip) Carroll, Monroe; Donald (Karen) Carroll, Prairie du Chien; Lawrence (Susan) Carroll Circle Pines, MN; Robert (Nancy) Carroll, Crystal Lake, IL; and Kathleen (Richard) Lettman, Babson Park, FL; 56 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Robert Conohan, Elkhorn; and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Carroll, Lancaster.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, in 1969; her son, Roger; her daughter, Ruth Irwin; her parents; and her sister, Isabel Conohan.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Visitation was held Monday, March 24, 2008 from 4:00 6:00 p.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday morning.

Dale A. Carlson

Dale R. Carlson, age 65, of Prairie du Chien, died Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien. He was born on August 8, 1944 in Beloit , WI , the son of Robert and Lucille (Roberts) Carlson. Dale graduated from Beloit Memorial High School . He also graduated from University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1967. In that same year he was employed at the Greendale School District . Dale was united in marriage to Judy A. Hinderman on August 25, 1971 at St. Rose of Lima in Cuba City . In 1976, he was employed by the West Grant School District , as an Art Teacher, which later became River Ridge High School . Dale retired in 2007.

Dale had a strong desire for the success of his students. He had a lifelong passion for the quality of our environment, and the preservation of its ecosystems. Dale will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, artist and teacher.

Dale is survived by his wife, Judy Carlson, Prairie du Chien; two sons: Aaron Carlson, Platteville and Erik Carlson, Spring Green; his mother, Lucille Carlson, Beloit; a sister, Marjorie Jackson, Beloit; father and mother-in-law, Francis and Charlene Hinderman, Cuba City.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother-in-law, Ed Jackson.

Dorothy A. Case

Dorothy Ann Case, age 75, traded her frail earthly body for her glorious heavenly one on March 6, 2010 at Orchard Manor in Lancaster surrounded by her family. She was born July 31, 1934 to Orval and Elsie (Graf) Reed of Ellenboro Twp.

She married Wendell Case on December 18, 1953 and together they farmed the Case home farm outside of Lancaster until moving to town in 1996. Mom always dreamed of being a home economics teacher, instead she chose a domestic life and God blessed her with five daughters as students, to whom she taught all the fine arts of cooking, canning, gardening, sewing, and child care. Summers were spent tending the huge family garden, picking fruits and vegetables, canning and freezing the crops. She sewed all their clothes and taught them to do so also as they grew older. She was the leader of the Prairie Stars 4-H Club for 25 years and cherished her time guiding the members in their projects and civic activities. Mom and Dad also provided the opportunity for all five daughters to graduate from college.

Dorothys love of music and her church were evident in her daily life by living her faith and sharing her love of music through singing. She graced her daughters weddings, grandchildrens baptisms and holiday church services with her voice, which will live on in our memories.

Dorothy is survived by Wendell, her husband of 56 years, and their five daughters: Susan (Bruce) Fritz of Lancaster; Louise (Steve) Hucal of Toronto, Canada; Diane (Mark) Camp of Mercer Island, WA; Mary Ellen (Tom) Candell of Oregon, WI; and Commander Annie Case, currently stationed at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego, CA She is also survived by 11 cherished grandchildren, Kevin, Eric & Tyler Fritz, Julian, Alex and Peter Hucal, Michael and Loreal Camp, Elyse, Claire and Ryan Candell. She is also survived by her sister June (Leo) Hahn of Lancaster, sisters-in-law Charlotte Cook, Port Charlotte, FL; Margaret Vesperman & Myrna Wepking of Lancaster.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, and by her brother Bill Reed; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Case, Joseph Case, Donald Vesperman, Charlie Cook and Carson Wepking; and sisters-in-law Hazel Case and Marcella Case.

Memorial services were held Saturday, April 3, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Lancaster with Pastor David Froemming officiating. Burial was in Boice Prairie Cemetery, rural Lancaster. Many thanks to her care-giver Barbara Randall, all the staff at Homeward Bound, Orchard Manor and to the Grant County Hospice for their tender care of Mom over these past months. Mom was such a gentle, but strong guide for all of us. She shaped so much of what each of us is today and we will cherish those memories forever.

Wendell C. Case

Wendell C. Case, age 80, of Lancaster, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2012, surrounded by his family, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer at the Good Samaritan Health Center in Fennimore. He was born on March 23, 1932, in rural Lancaster, to Harry and Rose (Crapp) Case. Wendell was a 1950 graduate of Lancaster High School and spent three years in the Army, stationed in Huntsville, Alabama, before returning to the family farm in 1955. He married Dorothy Ann Reed on December 18, 1953, in Lancaster. Wendell was an engineer at heart and loved figuring out how machines worked and repairing them. He never stopped his drive and desire to learn a new skill and continued to expand his mind. Wendell enjoyed the challenge of troubleshooting computers and other electronic equipment for others, even though he was eighty years old. His ability to help others was his reward. Wendell, along with Dorothy, instilled strong values in their five daughters and to embrace lifes many opportunities.

Wendell and Dorothy were always proud of their five daughters: Susan (Bruce) Fritz of Lancaster; Louise (Stephen) Hucal of Toronto, Canada; Diane (Mark) Camp of Mercer Island, WA; Mary Ellen (Thomas) Candell of Oregon; and Commander Annie Case, stationed with the US Navy in Yokosuka, Japan; eleven grandchildren: Kevin, Eric & Tyler Fritz; Julian, Alex and Peter Hucal; Michael and Loreal Camp; Elyse, Claire and Ryan Candell; sisters: Charlotte Cook, Margaret Vesperman, and Myrna Wepking; sister-in-law, June (Leo) Hahn, all of Lancaster; sister-in-law, Roberta Reed of Florida.

In addition to his parents, Wendell was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy in March of 2010; brothers: Lloyd (Hazel) and Joseph (Marcella) Case; brothers-in-law, William Reed, Charles Cook, Donald Vesperman, and Carson Wepking.

In keeping with Wendells wishes, there was no visitation and private family services were held at a later date. Burial was in Boice Prairie Cemetery, rural Lancaster. Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster is serving the family. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Wendell C. Case memorial fund has been established.

Diane Y. Casper

Diane Y. Casper, age 63, of Lancaster, died on Monday, July 9, 2012, at her home. She was born on August 23, 1948, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Edward and Dolores (Papenphien) Rupp. Diane graduated from Senior High in Dubuque. On February 10, 1968, she was united in marriage to Leo Casper in Dubuque. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Grant County for thirty years. In December of 1990, Leo and Diane retired from farming. Diane was employed at Fennimore Agri Systems, Lands End, and the Commission on Aging until her retirement in 2011. She was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster and Chapter H and Chapter I of GWRRA. Diane enjoyed sewing, eBay, gardening, visiting with family and friends and riding the motorcycle with Leo. She also enjoyed her Tuesday womens bowling league and the company of her two cats.

Survivors include her husband, Leo Casper, Lancaster; her son, Charles (Michelle) Casper, Bagley; daughter, Shelley Winders, Dyersville, IA; her father, Edward Rupp of Las Vegas, formerly of Dubuque, IA; step mother-in-law, Verna Casper, Fennimore; three grandchildren; three sisters, Janet Smith and Pat (David) Beals, all of Dubuque, IA; Debra Magenis-Koch, Hazel Green; special friend, Marlene Maurice, Lancaster; her two cats, Cocoa and Tinker; other relatives and many friends.

Diane was preceded in death by her mother.

Diane Cathman

Diane M. Cathman, age 57, of Bagley, WI, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2015 at Golden Living Center in Randolph, WI, after a courageous battle with cancer.

A visitation for Diane was held from 4-7PM on Monday, May 4, 2015 at Divine Passage Funeral Home in Ripon, WI. Her funeral service was held at 12:00PM on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington, WI. Friends and family visited at Martin Funeral Home from 9:00AM until the time of Diane's funeral service. Burial was held in the Patch Grove Cemetery in Patch Grove, WI.

Willis D. Cathman

Willis D. Cathman, age 82, of Lancaster, passed away at Orchard Manor Nursing Home on Sunday, April 7, 2013. He was born on December 9, 1930, on a farm near Bagley, the son of Willie and Birdie (Bohringer) Cathman. Willis was an avid collector of farm antiques. He also enjoyed buying, selling and repairing old farm machinery. Willis farmed near Bagley for several years and also did custom bailing. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien and was a man strong in his faith.

Survivors include his brother, Herman Cathman, Lancaster; two sisters: Rozella (Russell) Kramer, Blue Grass, IA; Madonna (Bill) Rieckens, Bellevue, IA; two sisters-in-law: Betty Cathman, Fennimore; Darlene Cathman, Lancaster; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Willis was preceded in death by a sister, Retha (Christian) Schnitzler and brothers: Louis (Thelma), Bernard, Burdette, Herbert Lyle (Violet) and Berlyn.

Funeral services were on Friday April 12, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien with Pastor Joe Irvin officiating. Donald H. Champion

Donald H. Champion, age 81, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2009, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien. He was born on March 27, 1928, the son of Orlo and Hazel (Budworth) Champion on the family farm in Little Grant Township. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1945.

On January 27, 1953, Donald was united in marriage to Helene C. Ehlen. He farmed his entire life having milked cows until he was 75 years old. Donald liked to watch the Price is Right and the Brewers and Cubs. He looked forward to his Saturday visits with granddaughter, Rebekah.

Donald is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helene; two daughters: Pat (Jerry) Knight, Bloomington and Diane (Don) Parkins, Lancaster; a son, Dale (Teresa) Champion, Prairie du Chien; his grandchildren: Michael and Jeffery Knight, Sarah, Andrea and Steven Parkins, Rebekah Champion; two step-grandchildren: Luke and Rachel Mezera; nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Mercille Roesch, Potosi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and brothers-in-law: Dorothy (George) Clifton and Audrey and (James) Roach.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington with Reverend Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial was held in Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township. Thomas C. Chandler

Thomas C. Chandler, age 66, of Lancaster, formerly of Rhinelander, died on Monday, July 21, 2008, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster.

Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.

Bernard E. Chapman, age 77, of Phoenix, AZ, formerly of Lancaster, died on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at the Lancaster Care Center in Lancaster. He was born on June 13, 1933, in Beetown Township, the son of Alvin and Gertrude (Pagenkopf) Chapman. On June 13, 1953, Bernard was united in marriage to Patricia Roesch at the E&R Church in Lancaster. Together they farmed in Beetown Township. In 1985, Bernard and Pat moved to Cave Creek, AZ. Upon his return back home in late 2010, he really enjoyed special visits with family and friends at the Lancaster Care Center. Throughout his life, he always enjoyed pursuing business ventures and traveling the world with his wife. Crosswords, coin collecting, and time at the blackjack table were some of his favorite pastimes. But most of all, he enjoyed time with his family. His proudest accomplishments include being a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed.

Bernard is survived by his children, Greg (Kay) Chapman, Lancaster, Diane (Steve Purcell) Nelson, Great Falls, MT, Marcus (Missy) Chapman, Windsor, CO, Richard (Sue) Chapman, Seymour, WI, and Kathleen (Doug) Casten, Johnston, IA; his grandchildren, Sarah (Cam) Siedschlag, Emily (Dennis) Romero, Travis Nelson, Robert, Joshua (Jennifer), Jacob, Samuel, and Anthony Chapman; great-grandchildren, Janie and Mallory Siedschlag, Cassandra, Alexis, Dylan, and Eliana Romero, and Taylor and Dylan Chapman; and many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Pat; and his parents.

At Bernards request, no public services will be held. Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Bernard E. Chapman memorial fund has been established. Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster is serving his family.

Keith Chapman

Keith M. Chapman, age 89, of Bloomington, died on Sunday, April 10, 2011, at Prairie Maison Nursing Home in Prairie du Chien. He was born on June 5, 1921, in Bloomington, the son of Arthur and Hazel (Oates) Chapman. On February 7, 1946, he was united in marriage to Irene E. Cathman. Keith was a lifelong resident of Bloomington, having only spent time away serving his country. During World War II, Keith was stationed in New Guinea in the Pacific Theatre and received the Combat Infantry Badge and Purple Heart. He farmed on the Chapman family farm in Bloomington until his retirement in 1979. Keith owned Chapmans Mobile Home Park until 2010. He loved playing cards with his family and friends and spending time at Mas Bakery. Keith was a member of the Abraham Hickok Wetmore American Legion Post No. 148 of Bloomington for over sixty years.

Survivors include his children: Charles (Linda) Chapman, Madison; Cheryl (Joseph) Dunlap, Bismarck, MO; Marcia (Charles) McCullick, Prairie du Chien; his grandchildren: Janel (Gregory) Dannecker, Appleton; Martel (Jennifer) Chapman, Madison; his great-grandchildren: Angeline, Alexander, and Zachary Dannecker and Annabelle Chapman; his sisters: Marjorie Mergen and Mary Ann (LaVern) Crubel, all of Bloomington; Virginia Taylor, Lancaster; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Keith was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Honey Chapman; brothers-in-law: Eugene Mergen and Herbert Taylor.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 15, 201 1, at 10:30 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington with Reverend Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial with military honors was in Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township. Family greeted friends on Thursday, April 14, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the funeral home.

Mason F. Chapman

Mason F. Chapman, age 79, of Moline, IL, formerly of Lancaster, died on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at Trinity Hospital, Rock Island. He was born on February 14, 1930, in Milton Junction, the son of Glen and Sylvia (Balch) Chapman. On October 8, 1950, Mason was united in marriage to Carolyn Hill at the Lancaster United Methodist Church. He was employed with John Deere for twenty-eight years as a machine operator, retiring in 1991. Mason loved the Chicago Cubs. He was a true baseball lover and he toured the country seeing games in every major league ball park throughout the United States and Canada many times over. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid crossword puzzle worker and loved reading books.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Chapman, Moline, IL; his daughter, Linda Chapman Schroeder, Cambridge, WI; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Mason was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Chapman.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 5, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor David Scofield officiating. Burial was in the Seventh Day Adventist Waterloo Township Cemetery. Friends called on Monday, October 5, 2009, from 12:30 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

Patricia A. Chapman

Patricia A. Chapman, age 76, of Phoenix, AZ, formerly of Lancaster, died on Monday, December 27, 2010, after a brief illness at the Lancaster Care Center in Lancaster. She was born on September 2, 1934, in Liberty Township, the daughter of Glen and Mildred L. (Holmes) Roesch. Pat graduated from Lancaster High School in 1952. On June 13, 1953, Pat was united in marriage to Bernard E. Chapman at the E&R Church in Lancaster. Together they farmed in Beetown Township. Pat was a city girl that wasnt afraid to work. She was the leader of Rolling Rockets 4-H Club and loved to bowl on the ORourke Funeral Home team. In 1985, Bernard and Pat moved to Cave Creek, AZ, and was employed at Desert Mountain Golf Community for over twenty-five years. Pat enjoyed her employment and close friendships that were formed there. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Leona Roesch and a sister, Jean Joyce.

Memorial services were held Saturday, January 8, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at the Lancaster Care Center Chapel. Family and friends called on Saturday, January 8, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the Lancaster Care Center. Burial was held at a later date in Little Grant Cemetery. William C. Chapman

William C. Bill Chapman, age 78, left this world to join his son, Michael with the Lord, on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Bill was born on May 1, 1933, in a log cabin in Waterloo Township, rural Cassville, WI. He attended several country schools and was a 1951 graduate of Cassville High School. He enlisted in the US Navy during the Korean War in July of 1951. While in the Navy he attended an intercommunication class A school. Following the school he served three and one half years of his four years in the Navy as an IC Man on the aircraft carrier, The Princeton, based on the ocean outside Korea. He was very proud to be a First Class Petty Office, very hard to achieve, in only four years. When his son, Michael, enlisted in the Navy in 1978, he re-enlisted in the Navy Reserves, based in Dubuque, IA. Bill loved his country and had such respect for all branches of the military. In August 1955, he returned to Cassville, to his familys farm. He soon reunited with his high school sweetheart, Sharon Lee Oelke. They were married on April 21, 1956 at St. Charles Church, Cassville, WI. On their wedding day they chose a special place to revisit every year on or around their wedding anniversary to recommit to each other. This was a tradition they carried out for all 55 years of their married life. Their special place was the bridge at Stonefield, Nelson Dewey State Park, Cassville, WI. God blessed their union with seven wonderful children, five daughters and two sons. Bill loved his family and was so proud of all of them and their accomplishments. After a brief time living in Beloit where he worked for Taylor Freezer Company for three years, He and Sharon purchased the family farm outside Cassville and raised their family there. In addition to farming he worked several years at Rapid Die and Molding in Cassville and over 30 years at Loudspeaker Component Corporation in Lancaster. Besides his family, his greatest joy was playing baseball. The family loved to watch him play. He was a great short-stop most say he was the best in the area. He was chosen for several All Star games in Dubuque. He wasnt a big guy, but he sure could hit the ball. You could count on him to get the job done both in the field and at bat. In August of 2008, Bill and Sharon sold the farm and moved to an apartment in Lancaster. This was a big change for him since he could always find something to do on the farm. In the winter, at the apartment complex, he would get up at 5:00am and clean all the tenants cars off after a snow storm to keep busy and to help out his neighbors. His efforts were greatly appreciated.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sharon. Daughters, Michele(Wally) Fishnick, Cassville, WI, Jeannie(Jim) Mellon, Oregon, WI, Julie(Jim) Eyermann, Imperial, MO, Mary(Jeff) Glass, Cassville, WI, Jackie(Mike) Bay, St. Louis, MO. Son, James Chapman, San Francisco, CA. a brother, Sylvan (Murph) Chapman, Dubuque, IA. Sisters-in-law, Catherine(Murph) Chapman, Dubuque, IA, Donna Mae(Ken) Radloff, Farmersburg, IA and Kerry(Mike) Podolske, Madison, WI. Also surviving are nine grandsons, three granddaughters and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael (twin of Mary) in 1993, his parents, his brother-in-law, Calvin Oelke and sisters-in-law, Marinette Bink Ollsen and Jackie (Chuck) Russell.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 27, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville with Father William Seipp and Father John Meinholz officiating. Private family burial with military honors was held in the Seventh Day Adventist Cemetery, Cassville. Family and friends called on Friday, May 27, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be offered to Grant County Hospice or the Grant County Cancer Coalition. Martin Funeral Home in Cassville is assisting the family.

Mary E. Chappell

Mary E. Chappell, age 85, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the Lancaster Care Center. She was born on December 15, 1928, in Cassville, the daughter of Joseph and Thelma (Craig) Caspers. Mary graduated from Lancaster High School in 1946. She received her Bachelor Degree from Iowa State University and later attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. She married Donald R. Chappell on July 2, 1955. He preceded her in death on July 11, 1994. Mary taught Home Economics and English at Bloomington High School for 30 years. Mary and Don farmed for 35 years in the Beetown Township and she was proud to maintain the family farm. Mary enjoyed playing Bridge socially, was active in the Grant Regional Health Center Auxiliary, and Schreiner Memorial Library in Lancaster.

Survivors include her son, Don; her sister, Jane (Fred) Derleth; nine nephews and one niece.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Bea Bakken-Steffe and two brothers-in-law, Richard Bakken and Keith Steffe.

Family and friends were invited to her graveside service that will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township, with Reverend Mark Dieter officiating. In keeping with Marys wishes, there was not a public visitation. Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster is assisting the family.

Fava Jean Charles

Fava Jean (Eastlick) Charles, age 78, Platteville, died on Monday, January 18, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, IA. Jean was born at her grandmother's home in Platteville, on September 29, 1937, to Purl and Lillie (Stanton) Eastlick. She attended the Cornelia and Poller Country Schools and graduated from Platteville High School in 1955. Jean spent her junior and senior years of high school working and living with the O.E. Gray Family and ironically her first teaching job was second grade at the O.E. Gray School in Platteville, while her husband Fred finished his engineering degree. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Platteville in 1959 and married her high school sweetheart, Fred Charles on June 6, 1959. She taught elementary school in various states; Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa and Oklahoma. After 20 years of teaching Jean went back to school and pursued her second love of accounting. She retired from Prescott's Supermarkets in West Bend, WI in 1998 and she and Fred moved back home to Platteville after 40 years away. Jean was a member of Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, Cornelia, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, ran summer day camps, was Clerk of the Council, Secretary/Treasurer of the Mt. Zion Women's Fellowship, and organized the Turkey/Ham Supper for many years. She enjoyed sports, participating in golf and bowling and watching Packers, Badgers and Pioneers. During the 20 years living in Germantown, WI Jean spent many enjoyable evenings listening to her husband and sons sing men's barbershop music. Her family has always been the number one priority in her life.

Jean is survived by: her loving husband of 56 years, Fred; two sons: Brad (Nancy) Charles, Milwaukee; Cary (Mari) Charles, Libertyville, IL; four granddaughters: Julia Charles, Boston, MA; Anne Charles, St. Louis, MO; Patricia Charles, New Berlin; Alyssa Davitz, Caledonia; one grandson: Nathan Charles, Libertyville, IL; one great-granddaughter: Millie Ann Davitz; two brothers: Dale (Cynda) Eastlick, Belmont; Bernie (Karen) Eastlick, West Chester, PA; three sisters: Carolyn Woodward, Platteville; Ruth Eastlick, Platteville; Betty (Robert )Straight, Sacramento, CA; three sisters-in law: Peg Charles, Madison; Betts Winsor, Hot Springs, AR; Carol Nanna (Tom), Schaumburg, IL; one brother-in-law: Tim (Sharon ) Charles, Platteville; many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Purl and Lillie Eastlick; in-laws, Fred and Anne Charles; four brothers: Earl, Leroy, Ralph and Lyle; three brothers-in-law: Kenneth Woodward, Dick Charles and Charles Winsor; three sisters-in-law: Ruby Eastlick, Shirley Eastlick, and Jean Steffus-Eastlick; and her grandparents: Ernest and Sadie Stanton and Clarence and Fannie Eastlick.

Lila M. Check

Lila M. Check, age 83, of Bagley, died on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at the Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. She was born in Bagley to Clarence and Myrta (Champion) Brown on June 14, 1929. Lila married Francis Check on September 1, 1953, at St. Johns Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. After forty-seven happy years together, Francis passed away on August 1, 2000. Lila enjoyed playing cards and games of any kind. She always looked forward to the get-togethers at her house on the Fourth of July. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Lila is survived by a daughter, Jenny and her husband, Glenn Marshall and two grandsons, Jason and Robert, and a sister-in-law, Wilma Brown.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lennis Grauer and Veva Henry and two brothers, Melvin Lee Brown and Clifford CyBrown and her parents.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 25, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial was in Bagley Cemetery, Bagley. Family and friends called on Sunday, March 24, 2013, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Bloomington. Friends may also call on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.

A big thank you goes to her good friends Jim and Dorothy Stimart for always being there for Lila. Also, thank you to Dr. Sheirlie LaMantia and Dr. James Yurcek for taking special care of Lila.

Thomas Cherrier

Thomas E. Cherrier, age 78, formerly of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017, in Colorado. He was born on May 23, 1938, in Lancaster, the son of Earl and Irene (Saengilng) Cherrier. After graduating from Lancaster High School, he furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin Platteville, receiving a Bachelor of Science and graduated from the University of Minnesota Minneapolis with a Master's of Science degree in Mining Engineering. Tom was employed with several mining companies in Colorado, but went to various countries checking out the quality of their mines, Germany and Canada, among them. He served in the United States Air Force from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1965. Tom was a member of Leadville BPOE(Elks)Lodge, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, Holy Family Parish, Member on the Board of Directors for the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum, and member of the Society of Mining Engineering. Until recent years, he enjoyed playing softball, golf and keeping up family and friends.

Survivors include many cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his step-mother, Marge (Zenz); his brothers: Lynn and Timothy; beloved aunt, Catherine Cherrier (Merle) Graney.

Patrick C. Chew

Patrick C. Chew, age 76, died on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was born on December 20, 1935, in Allahabad, India, the son of Ulric and Violet (Williams) Chew. On December 27, 1956, Patrick was united in marriage to Nancy L. Okey at the United Methodist Church in Cassville. He was very creative, witty, and had a great sense of humor. Pat was an avid sportsman, who enjoyed golf, soccer, tennis, and bowling. He was proud to obtain citizenship in the United States, which he considered the greatest place to live in the world. How significant for P.C. to have peacefully passed away on Independence Day. Pat dearly loved his family and keeping up with their activities.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Chew; a daughter, Zyann (Andrew) Kinney; a son, Eric (Kim Koppes) Chew; three grandchildren: Crystal Chew, Kara and Rachel Kinney; one great-granddaughter, Zayda Zalaznik; one brother, Ernest (Jill) Chew; one sister, Jane Turner; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Pat was preceded in death by his sisters: Rica (Eric) Knowles, Sylvia (Robert) Maydon, and Elizabeth Perry.

Myrtle E. Christianson

Myrtle E. Myrt Christianson, age 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2012, at the Lancaster Care Center. She was born on July 23, 1927, in Bloomington, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Wegman) Osterhaus. On September 17, 1951, she married the love of her life, Chris. Myrt was employed at the Lancaster Memorial Hospital in the business office for twenty-eight years. She was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church. Myrt loved to cook, spend time with her family and friends and enjoyed her volunteer work with the church and the community.

Survivors include her loving husband of sixty years, Chris; her two sons, Jeffrey and Jerome; three daughters, Therese (Steven) LeMaster; Gina (Frank) Buettner, Lynn (Jeff) Farrey; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her brothers: Roger (Phyllis); Paul (Charlene); Don (Mary); Carl (Linda) and Joe (Leona); brother-in-law, Chuck (Karen) Christianson.

In addition to her parents, Myrt was preceded in death by an infant brother.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster served the family.

William Christianson

William "Chris" L. Christianson, age 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children and followed His Savior home on Sunday, December 7, 2014. He was born on the Christianson family farm in Wauzeka, WI, on April 16, 1927, the son of Henry and Margaret (Seely) Christianson.

After serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII, he married his sweetheart from Bloomington, Myrtle E. Myrt Osterhaus. Their love and faith bonded them together for 60 years. Chris loved to give of himself and his gentle nature and sense of humor served him well for all of the volunteer work he did for his church and other community services. He worked for many years in the grocery business and at the age of 75 he retired from Lancaster Interiors. He was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 2820 and Seely Onstine American Legion Post #458.

Chris is survived by his sons: Jeffrey and Jerome, three daughters: Therese (Steve) LeMaster, Gina (Frank) Buettner, Lynn (Jeff) Farrey; seven grandchildren: Christopher (Sarah) Buettner, Ceri (Chuck) Beatty, Blake (Abby) Buettner, Brandon (Heidi) Farrey, Megan (Joe) Karls, Scott Farrey, and Kira Christianson; nine great-grandchildren; his brother, Charles (Karen) Christianson; members of the Osterhaus family, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Chris was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Myrt.
